On November 7, Dr. F. Mathieu,
Project Director of Belgian Kaschin-Beck Disease
control Foundation, Professor Camille Chasseur and
Dr. He Lixin from the Institute for Endemic Disease
Control of CDC in Tibet, visited the Center for
Endemic Disease Control at HMU.
In
the meeting, the leaders of the operation department
gave a brief introduction to the center, its
functions and the current condition of the endemic
diseases in China. Professor Sun Dianjun, Vice
Director of the center, on behalf of HMU and the
center, extended a warm welcome to Dr. F. Mathieu
and the other visitors. Meanwhile, he briefly
introduced the history of HMU and the etiological
research on endemic diseases, as well as their
prevention, control and application.
During the visit at the Institute of Kaschin-Beck
Disease Control, Professor Yang Jianbai, a famous
expert in Kaschin-Beck Disease and epidemiologist,
talked about the research findings for the
prevention and control of Kaschin-Beck Disease and
the ideas on current research.
Dr.
F. Mathieu has been devoted to the research of
Kaschin-Beck Disease in Tibet Autonomous Region for
the past 14 years. She has had academic exchanges
with Professor Yang Jianbai on more than one
occasion, and spoken highly of the research,
prevention and control conducted by the Institute
for Kaschin-Beck Disease Control. She said, ^The
academic exchange with the Institute of the Kaschin-Beck
Disease Control each time gives me new information
and valuable thoughts. ̄
Before their departure from the center, the visitors
visited the Institute for Iodine Deficiency Disorder
Control, the Institute for Endemic Fluorosis Disease
Control and the editorial department of Chinese
Journal of Endemiology.
