On the afternoon of June 12, the WFME advisors gave their feedback on the review visit for the Pilot Accreditation of Basic Medical Education at HMU Referenced according to WFME Global Standards. The HMU senior staff, members of the Teaching Guidance Committee, deans and vice deans for teaching of affiliated schools and staff of the Dean’s Office attended the meeting.

Professor Laurie Geffen presented the review team’s feedback regarding the two-day review visit:

The achievements made in medical education of HMU, especially teaching, should be highly regarded. The advisors admire the rapid progress at HMU. HMU has presented a detailed and convincible progress report, which proved that HMU was prompt to take measures and had made progress in medical education reform. The advisors were satisfied with the result. Meanwhile, they gave their constructive suggestions, such as further study on PBL, reduction of academic hours, more curriculum integration and community medicine, definite function of the Teaching Guidance Committee.

Professor Cheng Boji highly praised the progress made at HMU. He said it was a great contribution to the medical education of China. He hoped that HMU should set a good example in medical education reform for other medical schools in China. President Yang Baofeng, on behalf of the University, extended thanks to the advisors for their two-day hard work. He said that HMU faculty would study their recommendations in order to make improvement. He wished the advisors could come back to HMU soon and witness the achievements with their own eyes.
