HMU was founded in 1926 and features a glorious history and tradition. After over 80 years of construction and development, HMU’s strength has been increasing and become a medical school of huge capacity and distinct characteristics. HMU has now been one of the top medical schools in China. With a total area of 2.36 million square meters, Harbin Medical University (HMU) is located in Harbin which is the capital of Heilongjiang Province along the Songhua River. There are various subjects, abundant faculty, excellent equipment and high-quality education. In 2007, HMU was among the first group of universities which were authorized to enroll the international students of clinical medical bachelor degree (taught in English). Undergoing exploration and practice,
It is gradually formed that the united education system of “Bachelor, graduate and research scholar”.

  1. Majors and length of studying

1.1Majors for Bachelor
Courses in English: clinical medicine, 6-year program
Courses in Chinese:
(1)Clinical medicine, preventive medicine, anaesthesiology, medical imaging, stomatology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, clinical pharmacy, 5-year program
(2) Law, nursing, Pharmacy, public affairs management, 4-year program
1.2 Master: 3-year program, the majors can be consulted in the same year Admission Policies and Guidelines of Master. The study is the same as the Chinese master under the guidance of supervisors.
1.3 Doctor: 3 to 5 year program, the majors can be consulted in the same year Admission Policies and Guidelines of Doctor. The study is the same as the Chinese doctor under the guidance of supervisors.
1.4Postdoctor: Postdoctor’s majors can be referred to master’s majors. The length of studying should be over 1 year and the study is the same as the Chinese graduates under the guidance of supervisors.
2. Application criteria:
The foreign citizen who would like to apply for studying in HMU should have reliable financial assurance and guarantor. The Constitution and law of China must be obeyed. The rules of University should be followed. The applicant should be:

  1. foreign citizen holding the valid passport
  2. bachelor applicant should have high-middle school education background with good marks, at the age between 18 to 40. Master applicant should hold bachelor degree and age is not limited. Doctor applicant should hold master degree and age is not limited.

Postdoctor applicant should hold master degree and age is not limited.

3. Admission Procedures
3.1 Documents:
a. Submitting the following documents to International Office of HMU: Completed Application Form of Harbin Medical University with photo (can be downloaded on website); 
b. Copies of the latest verified schooling certificate or prove of potential graduation. If the applicant is studying or employed, the verification should be provided by the school or the company;
c. Verified high-middle school graduate examination transcript or schooling transcript
d. Copy of valid passport 
e. Original document of financial situation and the proof issued by bank the deposit should be more than 400000RMB
f. Letter of guarantee by a Chinese sponsor with evidence of the sponsor's identity (can be downloaded our website);
g. Do the examination as “Foreigner medical examination record”, must include photograph of chest X - ray examination, original blood tests for AIDS and syphilis and Hepatitis B. it is invalid if it is not completed, without photo or seal. The validity of examination is 6 months.
h. The applicant taught in English should be good at English. The applicant from non-English speaking country must provide English test certificate arranging from elementary school to middle school.
The applicant taught in Chinese should provide verified HSK grade-6 (including grade-6)transcript.
I. The master, doctor and postdoctor applicant should provide   recommendation letters written by more than assistant professor or professor.
J. Four passport photos
k. The registration fee must be remitted to the account of Harbin Medical University and it would not be returned.
L. Deadline of application: January 31 every year
M. The documents mentioned above would not be returned, no matter the applicant is enrolled or not.
3.2 Application Procedure
a. After receiving the materials (mentioned above), we will assess the applicant qualification. Then we will send the scanning copy of <Admission Letter> to the applicant who gets the qualification. After receiving the materials (mentioned above), we will send the JW202 FORM, Acceptance Letter and the Fee Structure to the applicant. The name list of enrolled applicant will be announced on website of HMU.
b. The international students should hold the common passport and “X” or “F” visa. Studying over 6 months, the applicant should apply for the “X” visa. Studying less than 6 months, the applicant should apply for the “F” visa. The short-term international students should apply for the “F” visa by invitation letter.
c. If the applicant comes to China with diplomatic, official business, official and special passport or visa, the note should be presented by the mission of his/her country to claim that the privilege is given up. And then the visa is changed to “X” or “F” visa by Police
4. Fee structure
Tuition fee is paid according to the document of China, counted by RMB. Tuition fee and accommodation fee should be paid within one week after the applicant’s arrival. Delay of payment will be fined 5% of tuition fee. After payment of all the fees, the applicant will be registered and apply for residence permit. If the applicant does not pay all the fees within 20 days after arrival, the enrollment and “X” / “F” visa will be canceled as well as the applicant must leave China.

Note: Tuition fee and accommodation fee can be paid by dollar currency or remitted to account of HMU, but it will be counted by RMB according to the exchange rate of the date when the fee arrives.
4.2Registration fee: 800RMB/ person
4.3Accommadation fee
a. No.1 dormitary: double room with shower, toilet, telephone, furniture, cable TV, Internet. The kitchen, boiled water room and laundry are public.     Each bed is 5000RMB for one year and single room is 10000RMB for one year.
b.No.2 & No.3 dormitary: double room with furniture, Internet. The toilet, bathroom, entertainment room, kitchen, boiled water room and laundry are public.
Each bed is 3600RMB for one year and single room is 7200RMB for one year.
4.4 Other fee
The cost of residence permit, physical examination, living, books and medical insurance (600RMB) are paid by the applicant.
5. Registration procedure
5.1 Beginning of the term: April 1, every year
5.2Registration document:
The enrolled applicant should be registered during March 24 to 28, taking all the documents, such as admission letter, JW201 or JW202, foreigner physical examination, passport, three 2-inches photos without hat. At the same time, the tuition fee, accommodation fee and other expenses should be paid.
5.3 The applicant who will study in China over 6 months must go to the health office and finish the physical examination confirmation. If the applicant provides it, the applicant should do the physical examination at local health office. The applicant must return to his/her country when the examination shows that the applicant is not allowed to come to China.
