IntroductiontoDepartment of Health Statistics

Health statistics is an interdisciplinary subject that integrates statistical theories and methods with relevant medical knowledge. It applies statistical principles and methods to medical researchworkand the management of health care servicesfield, encompassing research planning, data analysis and evaluation, statistical forecasting, and the presentation of statistical results. Statistical support is essential for various research endeavors in biomedicine, including experimental research, clinical trial studies, epidemiological research, and public health management.Health statistics has the right to confer master's and doctor's degrees.

TheHealth Statisticsdepartment currently has 8 faculty members, includingof 3 professors (including 1 second-level professor), 2 associate professors, and 3 lecturers. All 8 faculty members hold doctoral degrees. The department undertakes the teaching of medical and health statistics in both Chinese and English for multiple academic tracks across the university, including postgraduates, "5+3" integrated program students, seven-year program students, undergraduates, and international students.

The department is composed of personnel with knowledge background in medicine, mathematics and computer science, has 5 doctoral supervisors (who also serve as master's supervisors). It is equipped with excellent teaching and research facilities, providing a robust platform for the education and development of master's and doctoral students.

²Statistical methods for chronic non-communicable diseases.

The department holds a leading position in these fields within China.

In recent years, the department has secured 21 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 5 sub-projects under national key technology support programs. The total research funding has exceeded 10 million yuan. The faculty has published approximately 300 academic papers, including over 100 papers indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI).

External Services

Medical trials differ from general physical and chemical experiments. Since trial results are ultimately applied to humans, their reliability and scientific validity must be guaranteed. Due to the variability and complexity of biological systems, trials are prone to producing misleading results.

China’s Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines explicitly require that clinical trials of new drugs must involve biostatistics professionals with clinical trial experience throughout the entire process to ensure scientific rigor.

Comprising experts with backgrounds in medicine, mathematics, and computer science, the Department of Health Statistics is well-versed in GCP guidelines. It has established comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and a strong team, serving as an external resource for pharmaceutical and medical institutions. The department provides the following consulting and services:

1. Statistical design.

2. Data management.

3. Data processing and statistical analysis.

4. Compilation of statistical reports.
